This will fill many nights by itself and promises with the following additions Bard Constantine does in Multi Genres what most writers can only manage to do in one try his hard boiled Mick Trouble books for some 40 s Mike Hammer style thrillers set in the dystopian future. Highly recommended Mass Market Paperback A great recommendation under the radar books led me to this gem and I couldn t be grateful I found myself lost in this world Two fantastically written lead characters plagued by a realm full of darkness Fantastic battle sequences and creepy surroundings I couldn t put this book down Ready to embark on book two Mass Market Paperback Painfully overwritten DNF Mass Market Paperback Man.
In a world where history has become myth legend returns in sinister fashion When a malevolent race of powerful beings reveals their existence humanity must suffer the consequences An immortal lord risks everything to cure his people of their terrible curse yet the cost may be that of his very soul A newly anointed seeress discovers an artifact that may hold the key to an ages old conflict but her discovery may be her destruction And a fallen knight pursues a path of vengeance despite repercussions that threaten to consume all that he has suffered for Their lives will intersect with others men who shift their shape with a thought an ambitious and brutal warlord fixated on conquest a cunning agent with duplicitous loyalties a crimson eyed mistress whose name means Death and a band of skilled fighters who dare to hunt the immortal The resulting maneuvers for position and power will sweep the entire kingdom into a war where no outcome is predictable and even the best intentions can go horribly awry The Shadow Battles have begun The Eye of Everfell The Shadow Battles 1 I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review The Eye of Everfell I can only describe as one of those long lost treasures you find buried in a place long forgotten aka my backlog of kindle ebooks Many readers including myself are always looking towards the future for the next great story that will bring something new to genre However in my opinion the real triumph for this genre is to look back at what came before to discover a series that has essentially been lost The Eye of Everfell blends some familiar elements of classical fantasy with a modern spin and the story that just keeps growing the deeper you go Bard Constantine s prose are direct but beautifully flowing at the same time and I was mesmerized In a time where self published authors are flourishing this books is in my top tier. I won t go into too many details due to spoilers but the premise revolves around immortal beings known as the Aelon These beings lived on the world of Erseta until they were forced to leave A small group of the Aelon known as the Co nane choose to stay behind and in the process lost their immortality In times of desperation they turned to the shadowy figure Levilavin who granted the Co nane power but also put a terrible curse on them Alaric is the leader of the Co nane and has vowed revenge against Levilavin and his search brings him to the realm of Everfell in search of a magical artifact to end his people suffering. Nyori is a newly appointed Shama of the Norther Steppes and we begin her story with her final trial Shamas are a class of seers and healers that use their foresight to affect certain events yet to occur During her trial Nyori is tasked to look into the Eye of Everfell as her inner mind separates from her body Instead she is transported to the realm of Everfell where she discovers the magical Geod Eymunder The same item that Alaric is looking for and the story explodes from this point forward Marcellus is a noble knight and somewhat of a living legend except all he wants is to live in infamy with his wife and daughter Marcellus is tasked by the king to travel into the far eastern lands of Bruallia to recover his bastard child as he no longer as an heir to the throne On his way to the far east Marcellus is betrayed and his story goes down a very dark path and I will leave it at that. What Bard has created in book 1 of the Shadow Battles is not anything necessarily new but he creates it in new and amazing ways The story starts out very small and mysterious with the tension and lore growing to epic proportions This story also shows a little bit of influence from the Wheel of Time with the magical weapons powerful women with magic a hidden city s of ancient history deadly creatures and a plot that is ever changing. The pages flew by as my appetite for was insatiable and the pacing kept feeding me the good stuff into the wee hours of the morning There isn t a cliffhanger at the end but a shocking moment is very much present and just as crushing What is in store for me in book 2 I can only guess but the story continues and my mind needs another dose of Bard Constantine s medication. Cheers Mass Market Paperback I am so glad I received this book Thank you Goodreads I am a big fan of mythical fantasy books so I was very excited when this arrived Thank you Bard Constantine so far you have captivated my attention for so much than a few brief moments And I AM taking my well earned mental vacation from the world with EOE I won t post spoilers ruins it for me so I will just give you the sneak peek An immortal lord risks everything to cure his people of their terrible curse a fallen knight pursues a path of vengeance and a seer discovers an artifact that may hold the key to something very important. May sound silly but I loved opening up to a map I like visuals and it gave me a sense of where I was going throughout the story Really felt a connection to the characters which is how I grade a novel Good reads needs to put half marks up as I found the book to be a 4. 5 5 Definite must read for fantasy fans I am very much looking forward to the next journey with Bard Constantine Mass Market Paperback I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Eye of Everfell I liked that each chapter was told from a different character s perspective Adventure magic mystical creatures Tests of loyalty courage and strength I love a good epic fantasy and I definitely found all of the right elements in this book Looking forward to reading the next in the series Mass Market Paperback Until today my only love of epic fantasy was LOTR and its various installments That was until I got my hands on Bard Constantine s The Eye of Everfell. Bard Constantine has a wonderful and masterful way of telling a tale He is descriptive which is certainly needed in this genre yet not overly so as to bore Three lives play out their fate within these pages and their storylines are woven in style One a Lord another a Knight and the last a Seer The characters are well thought out and developed allowing me to feel a sense of connection to each. I will not give any spoilers I hate people who do that poor taste but what I will say is I was over the moon at being pointed towards such a gem Well deserved 5 stars Mass Market Paperback this book took me a while to read but not because it was boring Uni and other stuff got in the way of me completing this awesome spectacular book Rated 4. 5 stars I received the Eye of Everfell in a Goodreads giveaway Thanks to the author for giving me the chance to read this book It was a great read with a very advanced plot line I believe Wihthin this book was magic and adventure In this book at the start we aren t really sure who the enemy is Even by the end I still wasn t really sure who the enemy was but I do now The man with mirrored eyes However at the start I was like is Alaric the Pale Lord the enemy because he is trying to save his people Is it Leilavin who is trying to stop Alaric from destroying the world who helps Nyori but in the end destroys Marcellus Is it really the Man with Mirrored Eyes who is the true enemy or is it the High Lady These were the thoughts going through my head at the time I like how it does this because it is different from other books which have a definitive enemy This is a unique magic story which I enjoyed Every battle every event it was written in a way in which I felt like I was in the book witnessing and participating I really REALLY can t wait for the next book in the series Mass Market Paperback The Bard Constantine pen name has been officially retired The author now goes by his real name Lewis Knight. Eye of Everfell is an epic fantasy like I grew up on Filled with multiple storylines that slowly enter twine together drawing you further and further into the lush worlds that make up this story you ll find yourself back in the real world with afterimages playing across your eyelids every time you close them As epic as this book is it is only the first in what promises to be a tale equal to the greats dare I mention Tolkien I won t go into the story so as not to ruin it for anyone the blurb is enough to draw you in suffice it to say that the worst thing about this book is that the next installment is going to make me wait 6 8 months arrrrrggghh As a quick note this is no novella or short story masquerading as a book I so want to give this five stars It is a great story solid world building not overwritten or too expository You should read it. But Knight is capable of some beautiful wordsmithing It shone in parts of the book Then I would find myself cringing at something awkward gramatically off or something as simple as an overused word Things which a good solid edit would clean up As a self published author I struggle with this too I can t afford to pay an editor and I am too close to see the flaws in my own work It took two years after my first draft to finally get Atmosphere published and I m sure there are still things a professional editor would change. So it was frustrating at times reading this wonderful story but I will read the followup Oh that brings me to another thing It doesn t end I m fine with sequels I m writing one But bring your story to an ending of some sort Don t just stop in the middle and say buy my next book Mass Market Paperback GreatI lucked up when I found this series Strong characters very likeable Great read Ready for from this author Mass Market Paperback .
