Sally Gabble and the Fairies By Miriam Clark Potter

Sally Gabble and the fairiesaaa

An old woman living in a somewhat isolated cottage near a Woods is troubled by fairies and decides to capture one Sally Gabble and the FairiesSally Gabble and the FairiesAn odd little early chapter book about an odd little old woman who lives a lonely life with her donkey Booby for company There is a little town nearby but only Miss Gabble lives near the Magic Woods this seems to be the rural version of a low rent neighborhood where impoverished spinsters end up saving money but being nearly bothered to death by the fairies who come out at night to harass the donkey and ruin the vegetables She consults the friendly woodcutter who seems to be the only person around who cares at all what happens to her and he advises her to set a trap But having caught a fairy what is she to do with it I m not sure about this book I feel like it was intended to make some point about loneliness or prejudice the townspeople all stop talking to Sally once she has a fairy or being a good neighbor but it doesn t seem very developed It s an okay quick read though The illustrations are pleasant but nothing special Nice end papers My copy formerly belonged to the State Teachers College Library Hardcover.
