The Runaway Duchess (The Corinthians, #2) By Patricia Oliver

The Runaway duchesse brisee

The Monstrous Major Beautiful Georgina Bennett was a widow and quite content to remain that way Though still young in years she had tasted all she wanted of marriage with the late Duke of Ware But now her father was demanding she wed yet another elderly aristocrat and Georgina frantically fled the London marriage mart Safety though was not what she found What she discovered when she met Major Jack Hampton was the danger of her own desires For this heartbreakingly handsome infuriatingly arrogant gentleman made it shockingly clear that he did not want her as a wife but he most definitely wanted her as a woman The Runaway Duchess The Corinthians 2 You know that moment when you start a book and the opening scene is really good and you think Oooh this is going to be awesome I can feel it yay this is going to be so fun and you like the characters instantly and the hero starts off by rescuing the heroine and then you already know he s going to be the hero and the storyline become predictable but you don t care because it s really good And to make everything better the author has a really good writing style and the prose reflects the period that the story is set in And you think this is clearly going to be an amazing book Then boom as soon as the hero and heroine start developing feelings for each other they turn into blundering half witted idiots who make one ridiculous assumption after another that leads to an unfortunate infuriating and irritating misunderstanding and then you just huff in frustration roll your eyes heavenward and throw your hands up in the air dropping the vexing book in the process all the while wondering what the devil the author was thinking and to hell with these characters This is exactly what happened in this book It starts off with a clich d but good scene where the under cover Duchess of Ware gets attacked by ruffians and saved by Major Hampton who was just passing by Then of course as the duchess reaches her destination her cousin s house where she is seeking peace and solace from the hum drum of the London Season she learns that the mysterious man who saved her is closely connected to her cousin s family and she s bound to see a lot of him and bla bla bla Georgina is obviously a gorgeous duchess and Jack a handsome ruggish country gentleman who isn t seeking a second wife at all and would not oh no Never consider a romance with the beautiful Miss Bennett but even though it s all super predictable the beginning is tastefully done and Jack and Georgina have fun banter Then Jack finds out that Georgina is a duchess completely freaks out and they have a % misunderstanding which ruined the whole book Jack who had great potential of being a swoony hero turns into a complete rude overbearing and prideful ass too blind to see what s in front of him AND TOO OBSTINATE TO MEND THINGS BETWEEN HIM AND GEORGINA If you want my opinion Lord Portland should have gotten the girl He was way deserving than Major Hampton This is the second book by Patricia Oliver that I ve read and so far I have disliked both heroes I better like the dude from the next book or else Her heroines are wonderful but seriously what is up with her men Also this is the second book of The Corinthians series but it neither follows the first book Lord Harry s Angel nor features a Corinthian and come to think of it Harry wasn t a Corinthian either Hmmph And what is up with the breast cupping if you please Duchesses did not go about getting their breasts cupped by respectable gentlemen I don t think I m really keeping my fingers crossed for the next book Miss Drayton s Downfall which sounds really good from the blurb This novel falls into the clean category but is a bit warmer than typical traditional Regencies Breast cupping involved as mentioned above and there is also a premarital sex scene near the end implied but not described just a bit of passion before they actually get to it 0451177304 Not as good as many other Patricia Oliver books I couldn t help thinking that if the Duchess didn t want to be directed by her father she didn t have to be A wimpy heroine the hero wasn t up to much either 0451177304 For a time back in the 80 s 90 s my reading material of choice was frequently bodice rippers historical fiction and regency romances with a few contemporary best sellers thrown in for good measure Most of them were pretty steamy blush or overly romantic but I read them during a time in my life when I found myself as a single parent and these books fit the bill I found them to be highly entertaining I recently donated a slew of them but I wanted to catalog them all the same So if there is no rating here from me it means that I don t remember anything about the book other than I obviously read it If there is a rating it must have been in some way memorable for me. Kindle the runaway duchess book I only wish that GoodReads had been around years ago so that I had some idea of the many books I have read there were thousands I did own a copy of this book but most others came from the library because back then I could never have afforded the 100 books I generally read in any given year. The runaway duchess pdf free And by the way I still read bodice rippers just not quite so many as I used to 0451177304 Just too unlikely a plot basis for me 0451177304
