Heartland By Rebecca Brandewyne
Heartland america
I really enjoyed this book I mean there were points when I thought it was kind of well cheesy but any romance novel is going to have that It was probably for the best that the author confirms right in the very first chapter that Rachel and Slade end up happily married because otherwise I probably would have been a little frustrated at how obviously cliche this book could have been. A fever in the heartland kindle book Her historical facts seem pretty accurate but she could kind of just go on and on about the environmental descriptions which were kind of boring I mean it wouldn t have been so bad if what looked like an entire paragraph hadn t actually been just one sentence Regardless the tale was sweet and it definitely kept my interest through it Paperback Brandewyne is a terrific writer Even though this is a bodice ripper it s a great read Takes place in my native Wichita and she highlights some historical areas in the novel Paperback 3. Heartland restaurant login 58Not quite a by rote historical romance it was a solid mix of western and romanceAlthough for a boddice ripper the cover was hotter than 98% of the words inside Paperback There was no tension in the relationship and it felt like the author was trying to find something interesting for the characters to do for 300 pages Paperback Born in Knoxville Tennessee Rebecca lived in Knoxville and then later Chattanooga for the first few years of her life After that she and her family moved to Kansas where she grew up spending her summers in Alabama visiting both sets of her grandparents She says shes just a country girl with a dash of big city sprinkled in for spice But having traveled extensively in the United States Canada Mexico Europe and the Caribbean she moves easily between the publishing world of New York and her hometown. Heartland cast Heartland takes place in post Civil War Kansas The book starts out on a very lugubrious tone as a swarm of locusts in a matter of hours absolutely destroys every iota of the farmlands that these nineteenth century settlers so desperately toiled on for months This crisis precipitates the death of one of the female settlers leaving eight orphaned children vulnerable to the uncaring drunken administrations of their fool of a father. Pdf heartstopper 4 Our heroine an 18 year old spinster is the one who takes the little plot moppets on and rides down to the local town brothel with a shotgun to retrieve their deadbeat dad The hero meanwhile a rough and tough bounty hunter and the uncle of the orphaned children rides into town just in time to see the heroine plowing through the glass window of the brothel atop an out of control mare while her target cowers behind the skirts of a bosomy prostitute. Book heartland This sets up the tone for the rest of the book Truly hilarious scenes the heroine poisons the hero s breakfast leading to a knock down drag out fight in the barn two rival suitors with the heroine in tow beat each other almost to death with various scattered parts of a broken wooden chair are alternated with sober scenes of true horror an inferno at a revival tent turns a happy July Fourth into a tragedy a tornado rages on the flatlands with the suddenness of a striking snake an undernourished baby dies from bronchitis RB really brought it here and she turned this book into a time machine transporting me to 1875 Kansas rather than set up cardboard cut out characters before a vaguely painted backdrop. Book heartland The romance between the protagonists was satisfying without being earth shattering There are no or at least a very minimized version of OW OM drama or Great Big Terrible Misunderstanding It was clear early on that these two were meant for each other and it is their internal struggle to come to terms with their feelings rather than interfering outside forces that stand as the obstacle to their happy denouement. Heartland zakka Haven t liked an RB historical romance this much since Rose of Rapture and was frankly despairing of finding another book by this author that I would enjoy Paperback Well i liked this book but i really hated in the end to read how Rachel and Slade grew old and how Rachels grandfather is dead and how their children are grown up and have children of their own Fine let it be 10 years ahead but 40 is too much In one moment Rachel is 19 and in the next she is 60 years old That is the reason for the 3 stars In the whole book i waited to see them finally together and happy and how they dreams come true but i really didn t like to read about that after 40 years of their marriage I want to read about here and now not about their future and what they accomplished after so many years and that they still love each other as strongly as they love each other when they were young Paperback Here s the thing one of my all time favorite books is Love Cherish Me It s simply perfect When I read it I knew I had to read all that Rebecca Brandewyne has ever written Well I ve been working on her list slowly but surelyand I feel so utterly dejected This was by no means BAD it just merely fell short The story is about Slave Maverick the wussiest gunslinger I ve ever read and Rachel Wilder Rachel is according to this story a spinster at the ripe ole age of 18 We are told she is this because most men find her plain and she was too outspoken OK whatever But here comes handsome mustachioed Slade gunslingin and spittin wads of to baccy like it s goin out of style He has come to reclaim his nieces and nephews that are practically orphaned long story from Rachel who has been watching after all 342 tykes or 8 I lose track She s a hellcat and he s enad Why he s enad I haven t a clue Rachel s a grade A idiot and a B word at that Not that he s a gem Slade is possesive arrogant and a jerknormally my kind of historical romance hero He has all the makings of an Alpha Male but for some reason about half of the way into the book right when their unrequited sexual tension is at a peakhe becomes a pussy cat Meh Paperback Oh man And I had been searching for this book for forever at my local used bookstores I feel so let down One of my favorite story lines rough and tough gunslinger arrives to help sweet caring lady care for a passel of orphans Let me break down all of the disappointmentsThe book started with a prologue A very steamy prologue of the hero and heroine in the future already married totally going at it in their front lawn looking up at their nice cabin that they had built filled with all of their kids etc I don t remember starting a book by reading a prologue like that I hated it I felt like I had cheated and skipped to the ending I also did not want to read about them having sex and all of their loving feelings because I did not know them yet I like to read a book get half way into it and have been getting to know the characters before I get that thrown at me. Heartland ovation payroll Moving on The first part of the book was for the most part ok The hero was actually a masculine rough don t mess with me type of guy until he met the heroine Then he became a 5 year old Normally I dislike heroines for being too bitchy or what not but this hero was a putz I hated how rude he was to the Swede guy Gus that had a crush on the heroine Gus was nothing but polite and courteous and the rudeness was uncomfortable to read This hero gunslinger shows up and immediately throws himself into a childish competition against Gus for the heroines favor One particularly ridiculous scene both the hero Slade and Gus were fighting over who would hold the chair for the heroine so she could sit and eat They ended up snapping the chair in half due to the struggle dumb So Gus felt bad and whittled away a new chair for her When he arrived to deliver it to the heroine Slade walked up to him and told him it was an ugly chair dumber Really Are we 5 years old So they rolled around in the dust and beat the crap out of each other The I read the less of a gunslinger he appeared but of an asshole So I gave up Paperback I feel guilty criticizing this book and enjoying it so little when clearly it was a labor of love for Rebecca Brandewyne who says as much in the afterword But there it is After going out on a limb for her gothic inflected Chandlers series and her excursion into fantasy for the Chronicles of Tintagel Brandewyne returned to form with this romance set in 1870s Wichita Kansas I say return to form advisedly because the novel starts with what was becoming a clich for Brandewyne after first employing it in Rose of Rapture a prologue featuring the married protagonists having passionate overwritten sex followed by the conventional story Heartland also revisits a bit of Outlaw Hearts territory not just in its Midwestern setting but in the dangerous hero and overlooked heroine This tale of the romance between valiant homesteader Rachel Wilder and former gunslinger Slade Maverick has little suspense It s overlaid with orphans a plenty and annoying stereotypical dialect from both black and white characters Very very slight and seemingly indicative of a writer who after taking some chances with her previous books was trying to figure out what her readers and publisher wanted Paperback
